We, human beings should commit to safeguarding the environment that is entrusted to us. For which, we must strive together for a complete cleanup of our surrounding once in a while which would help us witness a change in society and live in harmony with nature.
Recently I had come across a comic strip where a kid was asking her mom the meaning of pest and the mother replies “Pests are species with huge growth rate and they are extremely invasive in nature…” and then the artist is showing the image of two planets far away, where one obviously is earth from where you just hear the voice of the conversation which continues as child asking mom “..What do they define themselves as?” This one example shows how tiny we are when compared to the whole universe.
But, ever thought about how something small sometimes can cause severe damage and destruction than something huge? An example of this can be pouring a drop of ink to plain water, and that single drop decides the color of the plain water later. Likewise, humans whatever they do are affecting the environment drastically which everyone must realize at least now.
Environmental Cleanup is not something that someone must compel you to do. We ourselves should voluntarily do it without any compulsion. An example of this can be practicing to throw waste papers only in a dustbin. It sounds simple when we read it, right!? Then why can’t we practice it daily?
We walk, we feel hungry, we will buy something, we tear the plastic coating of the food item, and we leave the paper there without even thinking about throwing it into the dustbin. This attitude should be changed. If we don’t have a dustbin nearby, keep it with us, hold it in our hand, put it in our bag or keep it in our pocket so that later when we find a dustbin we throw it. This is something that should be practiced by everyone which will definitely bring a change to our present life scenarios.
Consider another situation where we go to a hotel and have food. What we actually do is order food, have food, pay and leave. We are not bothered to check whether we dropped food unknowing in the table while we were having food, we would think that they have cleaners who will clean it. Seriously!! It was our table after they cleaned it and it is we who had food there, why can’t we just take up those dropped food and put it on our plate? We are anyway going to wash our hands, right!? These are menial cleanups which if we do in our day to day lives will become a habit for us which would gift us a clean environment.
Also, cleaning our house and surroundings once a month can also bring positive change to the life we live today. “Take a minute to clean before you leave” should be the slogan that should echo in each of us from now on.
